Project Background: From April to May 2025, the Wuhan Branch of Chuji Heavy Equipment Logistics was commissioned by Shanghai Electric Wujiang Transformer Factory to undertake the core task of the Wuhan City Power Grid Upgrading and Expansion Project for State Grid Wuhan Company—transporting four 110kV transformers from Wujiang, Jiangsu to the four major substation sites: Qijiashan in Dongxihu, Wuhan; Yonglichun in Qiaokou; Panlongcheng in Huangpi; and Tangjiadun in Jianghan. As a key project for the upgrading and expansion of Wuhan's urban power grid, it required overcoming the challenges of existing roads not being suitable for heavy equipment access and the limited internal space of the substations to ensure the timely delivery of the equipment. According to the established requirements, the transportation had to be efficient and precise, with the difficulty far exceeding that of a conventional large-scale substation construction project.

  1. Transportation positioning challenge: The of "microvasculature" transportation in the old city area

Spatial dimension limit compression: Substation entrance width less than 4.5 meters, social road width less than 4.5m, requires demolition of substation fence for vehicle entry, temporary enclosure extends to underground oil depot, demolition requires application approval cycle and incurs significant repair economic costs, and needs to re-pour substation fence.

  • Transformer transport vehicle needs to complete "ground-level flight" at a 90-degree sharp bend outside the site, with a total length of 23 meters front and rear for large vehicles, and a total weight of 80 tons for heavy cargo, large vehicles theoretically no longer possible.

Time window precision cutting:

Adopt a "tidal" road control: Full closure construction from 11 PM to 5 AM the next day, while completing temporary road safety measures and protective measures such as pipeline relocation and green protection.

  • Innovative  work method: Transport hours are offset by 7 hours from peak travel times of surrounding residents, with temporary lighting and night shift teams adopting rapid work operations. Each intersection uses professional heavy-duty escort vehicles to close the road, successfully entering the substation by 5 a.m. the next day. Turning two 90-degree angles from the substation, the workload is increased by 7-8 times compared to normal vehicle operations, ensuring traffic is restored by 6 a.m. to avoid disturbing residents and not alerting local authorities.

Coordinate the network stereo structure: Establish the "1+4+N" linkage mechanism: 1 central command headquarters, 4 substation on-site teams, and N municipal collaborative units for emergency filing and communication coordination. Develop an AR real-scene simulation system to repeatedly simulate transportation route risk points in advance by 72 hours.

  1. Technological Breakthrough: Smart Logistics Heavy Transport Empowers Urban Renewal

Modular disassembly transportation plan

  • A 25-meter-long heavy transformer transported from afar was disassembled by the team into foldable "block units," positioned vertically and horizontally using a hydraulic system, and reassembled on-site. It applied Beidou centimeter-level positioning + millimeter-wave radar to construct a "3D dynamic obstacle avoidance early warning system."

Revolutionary breakthrough in night construction in the old town

  • Pioneered the "fluorescent guidance + warning light alert" composite system, ensuring a 300% increase in visibility for construction personnel while achieving no disturbance to residents.
  • Road coordination diversion, the time for greening protection repair is shortened to 1/5 of the traditional process.

  1. Industry Value, Economic Dimension: Reedefining Transportation Standards in Complex Environments
  • Saves 47% of land resources compared to building a new substation, reduces social costs by about 200,000 yuan, creates a new scenario for "night construction economy," and drives the growth of surrounding services.
  1. Technical Dimension and Social Dimension

Implement "zero disturbance to residents" construction, with zero resident complaints, project experience personnel, staying at Wuhan Power Construction Department for filing 7-10 days in advance, technical personnel, construction personnel training, tool and equipment qualification certificate filing, etc. Chujī major item logistics said: "This practice has verified the feasibility of 'embroidery-like' transportation. In the future, we will deepen the research on 'urban capillary logistics' and develop micro transportation exploration for scenarios such as large item transportation, micro-space construction base stations, underground pipe galleries, etc., to provide more precise logistics solutions for new urbanization construction."

Currently, the Chuji Logistics team is working on compiling the "Manual for Transportation in Ultra-Narrow Space Environments," continuously injecting innovative momentum into urban renewal by proposing the concept of "Urban Capillary Logistics," showcasing the company's strategic vision.
